Weekly Memo July 27, 2020

Parents and Students of Silver Lake Elementary,

I hope you all had an enjoyable Pioneer Day holiday weekend.

We are having a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on the evening of Monday, the 17th of August at 5:30 PM in conjunction with our Back to School Night.  More information will come shortly but we wanted you to know this so you could get it on your calendars.  We will be asking all to wear masks and to social distance for the evening.  More to follow.

Just a reminder that the deadline for making your declaration for your kiddos learning path for starting the year is this Wednesday the 29th at 10 AM.  After the 29th, we will be able to see how many students are electing to do on-line learning to start the school year, also, which grades they are in.  We will then be able to decide on which option we will be able to support as a school.

With regards to face coverings, the guidance we have been given is that as a Utah State agency, we are to follow the directives of the Governor, the State/County Board of Health and the State School Board, that all students and staff will be required to have face coverings.  This can either be a mask, a shield, or even a bandanna, etc.  There will be exceptions for those with medical conditions that a doctor would need to verify that a student shouldn’t be required to wear a mask.  All others coming to school without a mask will be given a disposable one.  No other personal Plexiglas cubicles are being deployed.  The teachers will have shields and face masks available to them and they all will be using the in-classroom sound system to ensure that all can clearly hear them.

We will be practicing social distancing as best as we can.  We are following the guidance of the County Health Department on all areas pertaining to student and staff safety.  We will be doing extensive daily cleaning and sanitizing as well.

For those who elect to have their kiddos do online, we will support their learning and keep close contact with them so they continue to feel part of our Silver Lake family, and when they do return that it will be seamless.

Our Adjusted School Year Schedule (School Start Schedule) is;

8:00 AM – A Track Starts

8:30 AM – AM Preschool Start (T-F)

9:15 AM – AM Kinder Starts

10:45 AM – AM Preschool Ends (T-F)

11:30 AM – AM Kinder Ends

11:45 PM – PM Preschool Start (T-F)

12:15 PM – PM Kinder Starts

1:15 PM – A Track Ends

2:00 PM – PM Preschool Ends (T-F)

2:30 PM – B Track Ends

The District’s Q&A information page is still available to you to address any questions that you might have to help you make an informed decision.  Here is the link I sent to you before, it is updated daily.   https://alpineschools.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/ASD-Reopening-Plan-QA.pdf

Here is our Student and Parent Handbook.  It will give you all the info you need on our school’s policies and practices. SL Student & Parent Handbook 2020-2021.pdf

Additionally, here is a list of suggested supply items that you’re welcome to get for your kiddos for this.  This is voluntary, but most helpful especially as we are not wanting communal items that will need to be sanitized or quarantined.  Silver Lake Elementary Wish Lists.pdf

Remember to keep your kiddos engaged this summer with Reading and Math. Our Silver Lake Reading and Math Rocks Program will help you do this.   Although we are in the end stretch, don’t let your kiddos ease up on doing their Reading and Math.  If you need me to send out another flyer and log, please let me know.

We will need substitutes for next year.  If interested in becoming a Substitute Teachers, here is a  flyer and a YouTube video about becoming one,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MrE5_dMsMk&authuser=0
