Weekly Memo August 9, 2020

Parents and Students of Silver Lake Elementary,

We moved into the school on Friday!  It was so great to actually be in the school getting things ready for the kiddo and the start of the school year but we still have so much to do to get ready for next week.

Don’t forget, we are having a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on the evening of Monday, the 17th of August at 5:30 PM in conjunction with our Back to School Night.  Here is an invitation for it;  Silver Lake Elementary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Invitation.png

We are asking all to wear masks and to social distance for the evening.  We are also limiting the number of families in the building at one time to alleviate the number of people in the building.  If you weren’t able to sign up for a slot for Back to School Night, please email Heather Michaelis at [email protected]

Only parents, elementary-aged students and younger siblings should attend to minimize the number of people in the building at one time.  You’ll have a short time to meet your student(s) teachers, and get a chance to see our amazing school and then you’ll exit out to the backyard to enjoy a free ice cream cone, etc.

Again here is a list of suggested supply items that you’re welcome to get for your students for the year.  This is voluntary, but are most helpful, especially as we are not wanting communal items that will need to be sanitized or quarantined,  Silver Lake Elementary Wish Lists.pdf

I’m finalizing our school’s Return to Learn Reference Guide.  It is an extensive document that hopefully will cover all of your questions and lingering concerns.  It has taken a while to pull it all together.  The intent is to provide you a guide that you can refer to when you have specific questions.  You should be receiving it from me in the next day or so.

We need your help!  We only have one person expressing interest in serving on our School Community Council (SCC).  Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help improve academic performance at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from the school trust lands. Our council decides how these funds will be used.  This year our school will receive $92,256.00 from the School LAND Trust Program. The council reviews and prepares other academic plans for our students each year.  All plans are reviewed for final approval by our school board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administrations.  If you’re interested in serving as a member of our SCC, please see the attached candidacy form, Silver Lake School Community Council Candidate Form.pdf  Fill it out and email it back to me.

We need at least six parents to serve on the council.  If we get more than six, we will hold an online election.  Because we are not in the school yet, you can email me your candidacy form if you desire to serve on our SCC.

For those of you interested in getting your kiddos interested in Tennis, here is a flyer from the Utah Youth Tennis Organization,  Elementary Tennis Flyer.jpg

Although summer vacation is drawing to an end, keep your kiddos engaged with Reading and Math. Our Silver Lake Reading and Math Rocks Program will help you do this.  Here is the flyer and log for you to get caught up if you need it,  Silver Lake Summer Reading & Math Rocks Program.pdf  &  SL Reading & Math Rocks Minute Log 2020.pdf
