Weekly Memo December 12 – 16

Parents of Silver Lake Elementary Students,

Crosswalk Safety: Parents please remind your kiddos to cross where the streets where there are crossing guards if possible.  We understand that some of the cross streets don’t have crossing guards and the students should take be extra careful there, but where all possible cross where there is a crossing guard.  We want to keep all our kiddos safe.

RISE Recipient: This past week, Mrs. Rachael Johnson who is one of our AMAZING kindergarten teachers received the RISE Award for being Remarkable, Inspiring, Selfless, and/or Encouraging.  She was nominated by one of her student’s parents.  Congratulations Mrs. Johnson!

Pop Top Drive:  The Pop Top Drive has been extended to January 20th.

Holiday Sing:  Our Holiday Sing for parents will be on Wednesday the 14th. Due to the number of parents and families attending, we will have two separate times that day for parents to come to see the Sing based on their kiddos’ last names.  The Sing for last names beginning A-K and all AM kindergarten & preschool students will be at 10:00 AM in the gym.  For those whose last names are L-Z and all PM kindergarten & preschool students, their Sing will be at 2:00 PM.  Both are in the gym.

Our Holiday Sing for the students will take place on the 15th and it will be a common day for the kindergarteners so the PM kinder kiddos can participate in the school sing.  Both AM and PM kinder kiddos will attend the morning session from 9:15 AM – 12:15 PM.

Minimal Day:  Our next Minimal Day will be on Friday the 16th which is also the end of the quarter.  Students will be released at 12:45 PM, lunches will be provided for those who want a bag lunch to take with them at the end of the day.  There is no school for Kindergarteners or Preschoolers this day.

End of 2nd Quarter:  The 2nd Quarter ends on Friday the 16th.

Holiday Break: The Holiday Break begins on Monday the 19th – January 2nd.  The first day back to school will be Tuesday the 3rd.

Spring Musical Review:  We are excited to announce that we will have a Spring Musical Theater Review of Anastasia for 3rd-6th grade students.  A musical review is like a full play but with only the music, dance, costumes, sets, etc.  No acting.  Here is a flyer regarding signing up and auditions.  Anastasia Info Poster.jpg

Teacher Professional Development Day:  There is a teacher PD day on Friday, January 13th and there will be no school for students.

Reunification Drill:  On Friday, January 20th, we will be releasing the students at the end of the day at 2:30 PM for the staff to rehearse our Reunification Drill.  A Reunification is when we have to systematically reunify students with their parents/guardians after a school-wide lockdown due to some traumatic event.  Although we hope there will never be such an event, we must prepare for it so we know what to do and how to keep all safe and to return students to their families as efficiently as possible.  More information will come out about our drill and we will be looking for volunteer parents to help us go through the process of reunifying their students with them.  Look for a google sign-up form to volunteer.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Joel V. Miller – Principal
