Weekly Message August 16, 2021

Parents of Silver Lake Elementary Students,

Summer break is finally ending and another incredible school year is about to start.  We had all the teachers and many of the staff back last week for training and meetings and I can say that they are beyond excited for this new school year and to have all your amazing kiddos back in school.  It will be a great year!

Back to School Event:  We will have a Back to School Event for all 1^st – 6th grade students and their families on Monday the 16^th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  If you have not already signed up to meet with your kiddos teachers, here are the instructions on how to do so. Parents How to find teachers on Skyward.pdf   We are still taking precautions with the number of people in the building throughout the night.  In addition, here is the flyer for the evening.  Back to School Flier 2021.pdf   Please enter through the front doors of the school and exit through the gym.  We will have snow cones in the gym as you exit.

First Day of School:  The first day of school is Tuesday the 17^th and all 1^st – 6^th grade students will attend from 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM.  We will be kicking off the year with a celebration as the kiddos come to school at the gate near the bike racks where the students come into the school.

I previously ask that all wear their red school shirt or a red shirt if they do not have a school shirt but that is certainly not a requirement.  I know many students are excited to wear their new school clothes on the first day and that is a big picture day.  So, no worries if the color red does not fit with the ensemble for the day.  We still have Fridays as our Spirit Days and we encourage kiddos and staff to wear their school shirts then.

Spirit Shirts:  Please contact the office if you need to purchase a replacement red spirit shirt for your kiddo(s).

Kinder KEEP & Preschool PEEP Testing: Testing will occur during the first week of school, the 16^th – 20^th.  The kinder teachers will build the class lists and will have them posted on Skyward in the evening of the 20^th.

Kinder & Preschool Back to School Event:  Kinder and Preschool will have a Back to School Event just for them on Monday the 23^rd from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

Before & After School Programs:  We will be offering the following before or after-school programs this year.

Look for more information at the Back to School event and follow-up emails to sign up.  All programs will start the week after Labor Day.

Reading & Math Rocks:  We will have our Reading & Math Rocks Party on the 27^th for those who participated in the summer program by logging their Reading and Math minutes on the log provided.  Students should bring their logs to school and give them to their teacher anytime this week after school starts.

The Birthday on Marquee:  Parents can pay to have their student’s name pop up on our outside digital marquee on their birthday.  Please give us a couple of days to get it up, especially if it is over the weekend. We try hard to check every day and we do not want to miss anyone’s birthday if payment is made within a day or two of the actual birthday.  The cost is $7.00 to be paid online.  The instructions are below.
