Principal Message 8/8/21

Parents of Silver Lake Elementary Students,

Ready or not, school starts next week.  We all are over the moon excited for this new school year and all the opportunities for learning and nurturing that will take place this year at the “Happiest Place to Learn,” Silver Lake Elementary.  We have some new staff members that are a great addition to our school family and there will be more opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classrooms.

PTA:  Our AMAZING PTA is having a meeting tomorrow, Monday the 9^th at 12:00 PM.  This will be an exciting year to join the PTA.  They do so much for the students and staff and are looking for help in anything you might like to help with.  More to follow.  They are already working on planning for a school carnival, which is scheduled for Friday, September 10^th.  It will be epic!

SCC:  Our School Community Council has a meeting on Tuesday the 10^th at 9:00 AM.  We are looking to fill two vacant seats on the SCC.  If you are interested, please email me.  The SCC is a parent advisory board to the school that works with the school administration to discuss and make critical decisions on the School Improvement Plan and the management of School Trustlands Funds.   The SCC meets only once a month for an hour.  It is a great way to learn about how the school is doing and the direction we are doing to ensure academic and social/emotional success.

Back to School Event:  We will have a Back to School Event for all 1^st – 6th-grade students and their families on Monday the 16^th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.  More information will follow later this week.

First Day of School:  The first day of school is Tuesday the 17^th and all 1^st – 6th-grade students will attend from 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM.  We will be kicking off the year with a celebration as the kiddos come to school at the gate near the bike racks where the students come into the school.  We are asking that all wear their red school shirt or a red shirt if they do not have a school shirt.  It will be super fun.

Spirit Shirts:  Please contact the office if you need to purchase a replacement red spirit shirt for your kiddo(s).

Kinder KEEP & Preschool PEEP Testing: Testing will occur during the first week of school, the 16^th – 20^th.  The kinder teachers will build the class lists and will have them posted on Skyward in the evening of the 20^th.

Kinder & Preschool Back to School Event:  Kinder and Preschool will have a Back to School Event just for them on Monday the 23^rd from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

The Birthday on Marquee:  Parents can pay to have their student’s name pop-up on our outside digital marquee on their birthday.  Please give us a couple of days to get it up, especially if it is over the weekend. We try hard to check every day and we do not want to miss anyone’s birthday if payment is made within a day or two of the actual birthday.  The cost is $7.00 to be paid online.  The instructions are below.
